Since 1994, Gjerdrum kommune has experienced a stable, rapid increase of population, from approximately 3 500 people to 5 762 pr. 01.10.09.
After Gardermoen in 1998 became the main airport in Norway, the population growth really accelerated. With car, it takes 20 – 25 minutes to drive to Gardermoen airport.

Schools
Gjerdrum has too elementary schools and one junior high school. Gjerdrum barneskole is located side-by-side with Gjerdrum ungdomsskole (junior high school) in ask. In addition, the swimming hall is also located in the very same area. Veståsen skole is situated at the forest edge of Romeriksåsene.

High School
There are no high schools in Gjerdrum.
After elementary and junior high, most of the students attend high school in Lillestrøm, Jessheim, Nannestad, Eidsvoll, Strømmen and Nes.
Cultural
Gjerdrum has a very rich variety in cultural offerings. Song, music, amateur theater, and a lot more. There is something for everyone.
Gjerdrum kulturhus is built with this purpose in mind, and is also housing the library, cinema and a café.
Sport and recreation
Gjerdrum has a lot to offer for those who are professional athletes, joggers or for those who just like to take a walk in the woods – both summer and winter. Romeriksåsene is our closests neighbor, and here it is room for everybody, and with good parking for those who drive to the forest edge.
7 km with lighted ski trail, alpine centre with halfpipe and a quite new sports hall is among the main attractions, and handball and soccer are very popular sports. Gjerdrum IL has a football-team in 4th division. Orientation, motocross and wrestling is popular as well, and a golf court is being planned.
Lysdammen is very popular in the summer, as an outdoor bath during the summertime.

Health
Gjerdrum legesenter is located right beside Gjerdrum eldery centre.
A general health care program is offered to all children in Gjerdrum, and we have nurses standing ready to help you if you have any questions conserning travels. Nurses are located at the schools one day a week, and a nursing station for youth and juveniles is available.
